Spirits bottles are the hardest shrink sleeve application in the industry. Deep undercuts, wide shoulder ratios, uncompromising brand standards. Here's what the spec sheet actually needs to say.
A standard spirits bottle might require 55–70% shrink at the waist and 30–40% at the widest cylindrical section. Only PETG reliably achieves this profile without seam failures or whitening in high-shrink zones. OPS is insufficient for bottles requiring more than 60% local shrink. The high molecular weight and biaxial orientation of PETG gives it the elastic memory to conform to complex profiles while maintaining seam integrity throughout the tunnel.
| Finish | Specification | Target Market |
|---|---|---|
| Gloss premium | PETG 45 mic standard | Mass-market whisky, gin, vodka |
| Matte soft-touch | PETG 45 mic + UV soft-touch | Super-premium spirits, gifting |
| Metallic chrome | PETG 45 mic + metallic ink | Premium energy; limited edition spirits |
| Frosted | PETG 40 mic + sand varnish | Craft gin; artisanal spirits |
| R-PETG recycled content | R-PETG 45 mic (30% PCR) | Sustainability-positioned premium brands |
Glass spirits bottles require steam tunnels for two reasons: first, glass creates thermal shock risk under directional infra-red heat; second, the complex geometry of spirits bottles needs omnidirectional heat to shrink uniformly at all surfaces simultaneously. Steam at 98–100°C with 2.5–4 seconds dwell time is the standard parameter range for 45 mic PETG on 700ml spirits bottles.
Shrink sleeves on spirits bottles increasingly carry anti-counterfeiting features: holographic hot-stamp elements, thermochromic inks, or UV-fluorescent print layers that are invisible in retail lighting but detectable with authentication readers. All of these features are compatible with PETG base film — specification must be confirmed with the converter before production.
