Traditional shrink sleeve printing — rotogravure or 8-colour flexo — requires cylinder sets (€8,000–€25,000 per SKU) and minimum runs of 50,000–100,000 units to be economically justified. For a craft brewery releasing a seasonal variant, or a food brand testing a new flavour in one region, these economics are prohibitive. Short-run digital printing on shrink sleeve film changes this equation entirely.
Digital printing on shrink sleeve film uses UV-inkjet or electrophotographic (dry toner) print engines that output directly to pre-slit shrink film rolls without plate or cylinder production. Print runs from 500 to 10,000 units are economically viable. Artwork changes between runs cost nothing beyond press setup time. Multiple SKUs can run on the same print job, sharing the minimum-charge threshold across variants.
