Why Polimex

WHERE
PRECISION
MEETS SCALE

We don't just supply film. We engineer material solutions that perform consistently at production speed, across every order, every market.

Non-standard width, gauge, core diameter or shrink profile — our technical team specifies to your exact machinery and application requirements, not to the nearest catalogue size. Every roll leaves our facility validated against your agreed specification.
Gauge uniformity within ±2 micron across web width. Controlled melt flow, virgin resin input and inline thickness monitoring ensure that what you qualify is what you receive — on the first order and the hundredth.
Trial roll to pallet to full container — the same agreed unit price, the same specification, the same turnaround commitment. Production slots are reserved for qualified accounts. No annual price reviews. No substitutions.
EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF and DAP terms across 40+ destination countries. EUR and USD invoicing. Full export documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading — prepared before vessel departure. No freight surprises.
Our applications team speaks your process: shrink tunnel profiles, gravure and flexo print compatibility, corona treatment levels, perforation and slit tolerances. When your line changes, we adapt the material — not the other way around.

Connecting with Gen Z: Integrating QR Codes and GS1 Digital Links into Your Sleeve Design

2026-03-10 · 7 min read · Polimex Design Team

Why Digital Connectivity on Physical Packaging Matters

For Gen Z and millennial consumers, a package that cannot be interacted with is a missed touchpoint. A QR code on a shrink sleeve links the physical product to sustainability certificates, provenance videos, loyalty programmes, repurchase flows, and regulatory compliance information — all on a screen the consumer is already holding. GS1 Digital Link extends this further: one 2D barcode replaces both the traditional EAN barcode and the marketing QR code, compatible with both retail scanners and smartphone cameras.

The Design Challenge: Shrink Distorts Barcodes

The fundamental problem with QR codes on shrink sleeves is the same as with any graphic — shrink distorts it. A QR code in a zone that shrinks 40% vertically will become illegible unless pre-distorted in the artwork. Unlike logos (where distortion is aesthetic), a distorted QR code is a functional failure.

Specification Rules for Scan-Reliable QR Codes on Shrink Sleeves

  • Zone placement: Place the QR code in the minimum-shrink zone of the container — typically the widest cylindrical section. Maximum 25% local shrink in the QR zone.
  • Module size: Minimum 2.5mm module size for shrink applications (vs. 1.5mm standard for flat labels). Larger modules tolerate more shrink distortion before scan failure.
  • Quiet zone: Maintain 5mm clear zone around all QR code edges — do not crowd with background graphics.
  • Pre-distortion: Apply vertical pre-distortion to the QR code using the local shrink ratio at its placement zone — same formula as for logos.
  • Colour: Dark module on light background — minimum 70% contrast ratio. Avoid placing QR on metallic or pearlescent backgrounds.
GS1 Digital Link advantage: The GS1 Digital Link QR format encodes the EAN-13 GTIN, batch number, expiry date and a web URI in one scan. Retailers from Carrefour to Amazon are already requiring GS1 Digital Link on new product listings — adopting it now future-proofs the packaging specification.

Integration with Full-Body Sleeve Design

The most elegant integration places the GS1 Digital Link on the back panel in the minimum-shrink zone, sized to 30×30mm minimum. The front panel carries the hero graphics uncluttered. A subtle call-to-action ("Scan for story" or a brand-consistent icon) on the front panel drives consumer engagement without sacrificing the primary shelf visual.

Key Takeaway

QR codes and GS1 Digital Links on shrink sleeves require minimum-shrink placement, pre-distortion and 2.5mm+ module size. Polimex provides shrink zone data per container to support digital integration in sleeve design. Contact: ops@polimexgroup.com
